A rapidly spreading forest fire in France’s Gironde region has destroyed 2,400 hectares of land and forced the precautionary evacuation of 12,000 people. Hundreds of firefighters are battling the blaze in dense pine forests, where flames reached 10 meters high and even spawned a rare “fire tornado” captured on camera. Local authorities are actively investigating the cause, with early suspicions pointing to an accidental spark from a brush cutter. Highlighting the severity of the crisis, government spokeswoman Maud Bregeon described the season as “an exceptionally long period,” stating, “It’s only July 23rd and 44,000 hectares have already been reduced to ashes, more than last year.”
