France Battles Historic Wildfires

French President Emmanuel Macron has described the ongoing wildfires sweeping across the country as the “worst situation since World War II.” Speaking at a fire operations center in Bordeaux, Macron highlighted that an unprecedented 116,000 hectares of land have already been reduced to ashes nationwide. While reviewing the devastation in the southwestern Gironde region, he thanked frontline emergency responders, telling them, “I am here to express the support of the entire country… We owe you a great deal.” The President also paused to offer his condolences and honor the sacrifice of three firefighters who recently lost their lives battling the relentless infernos.
