Hundreds Missing After Landslide and Floods on China-Nepal Border

A massive landslide near Gyirong Port in China’s Tibet Autonomous Region has left an unknown number of people missing. Striking the Tibetan side of the crucial border crossing between China and Nepal, the disaster has severely impacted local infrastructure. The Gyirong County Emergency Management Bureau confirmed that approaching roads have been closed, while communication and electricity services remain completely cut off. Across the border in Nepal, the situation is equally dire as the country’s Tourism Board reports that 385 tourists, including 291 foreign nationals, are unaccounted for following sudden floods.
