A severe heatwave gripping Algeria and neighboring Tunisia has sparked massive wildfires, leaving 12 people dead and 54 injured. Driven by extreme temperatures, an astonishing 154 separate blazes erupted nationwide in a single day, forcing numerous families to rapidly evacuate their homes. During a hospital visit to assess the ongoing crisis, Interior Minister Said Sayoud provided a regional breakdown of the casualties, stating, “Five deaths were recorded in Jijel province, four in Bejaia, and three in Tizi Ouzou.” As Civil Defense teams work tirelessly to bring the widespread flames under control, six of the injured victims currently remain in critical condition.
