Georgian authorities have detained a suspect who allegedly planned to sell radioactive uranium-238 to a foreign national for $700,000. The National Security Service confirmed that radiation was detected in the suspect’s white sedan during the arrest. Security forces discovered two small containers hidden in the vehicle’s trunk, one of which contained a light-colored radioactive powder. This high-stakes arrest highlights an ongoing crackdown on the illegal trade of nuclear materials within the country. It closely follows a similar operation in February, when Georgian officials captured two individuals attempting to purchase $3 million worth of uranium and radioactive isotopes used in nuclear testing.
