In Karachi, Pakistan’s Sindh province, members of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and their supporters took to the streets to protest the local government’s controversial bill. Police were quick to intervene as protesters marched to the state premier’s office to hold a sit-in. While Karachi police intervened with tear gas cannons and sticks to disperse the protesters, one person was killed in the incidents. United People’s Movement officials stated that many women and children who participated in the protests were injured, and some lawmakers were also detained.
