Main train staiton in Berlin becomes ukrainian refugee center

The influx of Ukrainian refugees fleeing the conflict resulted in a mass crowd at Berlin train station in Germany. Ukrainian refugees arriving in Germany via Poland were directed to the Berlin Central Train Station in the country’s capital, Berlin. The refugees were met here and then dispersed to other areas following the registration process. Tents could no longer meet the needs of the Ukrainian refugees and that a second tent was required, authorities said. There were also reports of crowds at the train station as a result of the Ukrainian refugees’ refusal to leave Berlin.

German Railways Administration DB Group Representative Alexander Kaczmarek stated that they are approaching the limit of the area they can be responsible for and said, “Trains should be sent to other places from Poland. There will be a lot of space at the Lichtenberg or Gesundbrunnen Train Station,” he said.

Berlin Mayor Franziska Giffey stated that there is a state of emergency in Berlin regarding the Ukrainian asylum seeker and said, “The determining factor is the distribution of people throughout the country and the rapid exit from the central station.”

It has been announced that about 20,000 Ukrainian asylum seekers in Germany arrived at the Berlin Central Train Station and the central bus terminal last weekend.
