The brown bear cub was delivered to the teams of the Turkish Nature Conservation and National Parks (DKMP) Branch Office after found by a citizen living on the Iraqi border of the Çukurca district of Hakkari city, Turkey. DKMP teams delivered the 3-month-old bear cub to the Turkey’s Van city Wild Animal Protection and Rehabilitation Center to be looked after. Later on, the teams took action after evaluating the report that the bear’s mother was seen in the area, and took the baby to the Iraqi border for the second time. Teams have conducted a 5-day monitoring study in the region to find the bear’s mother. But despite their efforts, the officials couldn’t find a trace of the mother bear.
Later on, the bear cub was brought back to the Wild Animal Protection and Rehabilitation Center for care and rehabilitation. Center Director Prof. Dr. Lokman Aslan stated that every kind of care is given to the bear cub and told that they are providing a suitable environment to the bear. Aslan said that they didn’t named the bear cub yet and they would give the bear cub one of the names they thought “Hakvan” or “Haçuvan”.
