Many bridges were blown up in the city by Ukrainian forces in the early days of the war in Ukraine to prevent Russian forces from reaching the capital, Kyiv. In and around Kyiv, where Russian forces had withdrawn, Ukrainian forces began repairing bridges in order to reopen them. The challenging journey of Ukrainian civilians who continued to cross the city’s collapsed bridges while they were being repaired was captured.
