A fight broke out among inmates at Bellavista prison in Santa Domingo, South America, Ecuador. 43 people have died in the fight so far, and 13 others have been injured, authorities said. The Ecuador State Attorney General’s Office also stated that an investigation has been launched into the incident and that the identity and autopsy studies of the prisoners who lost their lives are being carried out.

Ecuadorian Interior Minister Patricio Carrillo, on the other hand, stated that the fight took place between the members of the criminal gangs Los Lobos and R7, which are hostile to each other, and that the prisoners who lost their lives were mostly killed with sharp tools in their cells and in the corridors. Interior Minister Patricio Carillo said that security forces restored order in the prison after the fight, while some inmates were trying to escape from the prison by taking advantage of the turmoil.
