A landslide occurred in the Brazilian state of Pernambuco due to heavy rains that have been effective in the state since May 22. Pernambuco State Civil Defense officials announced that 20 people died due to landslides in the city of Recife. The governor’s office reported that the total loss of life in the disaster increased to 33. It was stated that at least a thousand people in the state were forced to leave their homes and 14 schools were used as shelters as a result of the flooding. Recife Mayor Joao Campos stated that traveling to the city is dangerous at the moment and more than 3,000 municipal workers are involved in the rescue efforts. The Brazilian federal government announced that Brazilian Citizenship Minister Ronaldo Bento and Brazilian Tourism Minister Carlos Brito will visit the region with the instruction of Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, in order to support the people of the region and see the disaster on the spot following the sad incident.

Monsoon rains have claimed 17 lives in Pakistan, with flash floods hitting Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces. In Swat, nine people drowned while trying to rescue children who fell into a river during a family picnic. Search operations are ongoing for four missing individuals. Eight more deaths were reported in Punjab due to roof collapses, lightning, and floods. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed sorrow over the tragedy.
