Burnt forest in Türkiye’s Ayvalık regreens

Greening works on an area of 40 hectares in Balikesir’s Ayvalık district in Türkiye, which was reduced to ashes in the 2020 forest fire, have begun to bear fruit. The trees that are sprouting in the region as a result of the work done with tree planting and seeding methods under the direction of the Ministry of Forestry herald the greening of a brand new forest.

AK Party Ayvalık District President Ali Gür, who frequently inspects the region that has started to green up and closely follows the work done, expressed his satisfaction with the process. Underlining that many years are needed in order for the burned forest area to return to its former state, Ali Gür said, “The process exceeds 20-30 years in normal circumstances. But it will take about 10 years for this place to turn into a forest area again. In this process, I hope the trees here will exceed the height of an average human,” he said.
