A gunman opened fire during the Independence Day celebrations in Highland Park, Illinois, killing at least 6 people and injuring 20. Witnesses said that they heard at least 20 gunshots at the time of the incident. The celebrations and the parade were cancelled in Highland Park, as well as in Deerfield, Evanston and Northbrook following the attack.
Law enforcement officers and the police are investigating the scene of mass shooting, an official said. “The Chicago Police Department is providing assistance. Law enforcement is working hard to detain the shooter,” Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot said in a statement.
The suspect reportedly opened fire on the roof o a building, who has been identified as a white man aged between 18 and 20.
