At least 38 people have died after consuming fake alcohol in the Indian state of Gujarat, state officials said. “The people died in the hospital were reported having consumed methyl alcohol,” a police officer stated.
According to local sources, only 40 percent of the 5 billion liters of alcohol consumed each year in India is produced legally. The consumption and sale of alcohol is prohibited in the Indian states of, Bihar, Gujarat, Mizoram and Nagaland.
