A temporary bailey bridge on the Uchar Nullah stream near the Karakoram Highway was swept away by flash floods caused by torrential rain on Friday in Upper Kohistan, Pakistan. Sherry Rehman, Minister for Climate Change, also confirmed the incident, saying that the “compact bridge had been washed off in the flood surge.”
The Karakoram Highway, which connects Gilgit-Baltistan to the rest of the country, has been closed on both sides, authorities said.
