After the last increase in gas prices, Haitians protested the government of Haiti and demanded resignation. Thousands of protestors gathering in the capital, Port-au Prince, set car tires on fire and blocked roads. Shortly afterwards, the protest grew violent. Many citizens locked themselves into houses due to the shots fired. Videos of protestors blocking the roads with barricades posted on social media.

“We’re going to raise the price of gas to make sure the government collect enough money to keep the country running. We can’t keep on subsidizing gas for people who can pay full price and buy the gas to sell it on the black market,” stated Haitian President Ariel Henry.

“Violence is not the answer, violence won’t help us move the country forward. I am urging everyone to stay calm and work together to resolve our differences,” he added.
