EU to approve USB-C charger for electronic devices

The European Parliament (EP) has approved the legislation that will make it mandatory to standardize the “USB-C” charging port in electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets and cameras sold in member countries by the end of 2024. The new regulation will also cover laptops from spring 2026. According to the new regulation, consumers will not need a different charger each time they purchase a new device, and will be able to use a single charger for all small and medium-sized portable electronic devices. Regardless of the manufacturer, all new smartphones, tablets, digital cameras, headphones, video game consoles, portable speakers, keyboards, mice, portable navigation systems, in-ear headphones and laptops will need to have a “USB Type-C” charging port.
