Ukraine plunged into darkness with electricity savings

Ukraine’s public has been warned not to consume electricity after Russian airstrikes wreaked havoc on the country’s energy infrastructure for more than a week. Many streets and houses were without power after the government’s decision to reduce the power between 07.00 and 23.00 local time. The streets were plunged into darkness after the implementation of the decision.

Oleksandr Kharchenko, Advisor to the Minister of Energy of Ukraine, said, “Unfortunately, according to new data, approximately 40 percent of our electricity production capacity has been severely damaged. Restoration and repair work continues.”

Students Block Serbian State TV in Ongoing Protests

Student-led protesters in Serbia have blockaded state broadcasters RTS and RTV, demanding management overhaul or complete shutdown due to alleged biased reporting. Tents were set up outside buildings in Belgrade and Novi Sad, blocking entry and disrupting broadcasts. RTS called the blockade illegal, while RTV’s head labeled it “terrorism.”

The protests follow a deadly building collapse in Novi Sad that killed 15 people in November 2024. Despite government reshuffles and resignations, demonstrations persist. President Aleksandar Vucic dismissed the unrest as a failed “color revolution.”
