German police have forcefully removed climate activists from the occupied Lützerath village in Erkelenz Town, North Rhine-Westphalia. The eviction came after months of protests against the mining operations of RWE energy company, which had purchased the village a year ago with plans to demolish it. Activists had set up barricades and taken refuge in abandoned buildings, with some even climbing trees in an attempt to resist the eviction.
The police called on the protesters to voluntarily leave the village before starting the eviction. The activists, who did not comply with the call, were removed from the abandoned village by the police in riot gear. Additionally, police used construction equipment to remove protesters who were tied to the trees.
