Thousands of teachers took to the streets in Portugal’s capital city of Lisbon to demand better working conditions and higher salaries. Being on strike since the beginning of December, the teachers stated that their salaries, which is €1,100 at minimum, has become insufficient due to inflation. The demonstrators chanted slogans with banners in their hands and called on Education Minister Joao Costa to resign.
The demonstrators also mentioned that the education system is getting worse and that public schools are lagging behind.
The protest, organized by the Union of All Teachers’ (S.TO.P.), has been the biggest protest ever seen in the education system in the country’s history.
