A footage of the moments that 29-year-old Black man Tyre Nichols, who died 3 days later, was pulled over for reckless driving and beaten by the police in the US state of Tennessee on January 7 has been shared with public. The footage showed that the police brutally hit Nichols, who did not resist in any way, at least nine times and that the young man passed out after a while.
The officers who killed Nichols were detained but were later released on bail. They were dismissed from their duties and charged with second-degree murder, aggravated assault, two charges of aggravated kidnapping, two charges of official misconduct, and one charge of official oppression.
“I always joke – because he’ll come in the house and he’ll come in and say ‘hello parents’ – and I’ll never hear that again. I’ll never cook for my son again. I’ll never get a hug from my son again. I won’t get anything from my son again, just because some officers decided they wanted to do harm to my son. No mother should have to go through this,” said the young man’s mother, RowVaughn Wells.
