At least 18 people were killed and several others injured in a passenger coach collision with a trailer in the northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan on Thursday night, according to police. The accident occurred near Kohat Tunnel on Indus Highway in the Kohat district when the passenger coach and the trailer, coming from opposite directions, collided.
Rescue teams were forced to cut the damaged coach to retrieve bodies and free those trapped inside, with police stating that the accident was caused by the over-speeding of the trailer. The passenger coach was en route from the northwest Lakki Marwat district to the provincial capital, Peshawar.
Emergency responders and police arrived at the scene and transported the injured to a nearby hospital.
