eu holds meeting on afghanistan

The European Union (EU) Foreign Ministers held a crisis meeting to discuss the presence of Taliban in Afghanistan. European Commission Vice-President Josep Borrell stated that the EU will cooperate with the Taliban if they respect human rights. Borrell said that it would be difficult to take approximately 400 EU citizens, staff and their families to the airport without speaking to the Taliban, and that Brussels will contact the Taliban as soon as possible regarding the evacuations. In the joint statement of the Foreign Ministers issued after the meeting, it was stated that a political solution and security should be ensured in Afghanistan, and the violence should end.
