Strong Winds Cause Havoc in Mexico City

Strong winds wreaked havoc in Mexico City, causing 66 trees to fall across various parts of the capital. The fallen trees damaged numerous vehicles, homes, and workplaces, and left 5 people injured. Some roads were blocked and power lines were damaged as well. Despite the majority of the fallen trees being in Alvaro Obregon, situated in the western part of the city, an 18-meter tree also fell on a motorcycle within the city. In response to the incident, civil defense teams and firefighters were deployed to remove fallen trees and assist victims. According to Mexico’s National Meteorological Service (SMN), the strong winds were a result of the convergence of humid air in the region and a cold air front from the north.

Microsoft Fires Engineer Over Gaza Protest at CEO Speech

0

Microsoft has fired software engineer Joe Lopez after he publicly protested the company’s Azure technology being used by Israel in attacks on Gaza.

Lopez interrupted CEO Satya Nadella’s speech at a company conference in Seattle on May 19, accusing Microsoft of supporting Israeli war crimes. He was later dismissed via email, according to activist group “No Azure for Apartheid.”

The group also claimed Microsoft banned terms like “Palestine”, “Gaza”, and “genocide” from internal emails. Lopez had worked on Azure’s AI services team and previously warned colleagues about the technology’s alleged use in targeting civilians.

Microsoft has not publicly responded to the incident.
