More than 20,000 employees who had previously announced a strike came together in Syntagma Square, located near the parliament building. The protest turned tense at times as the demonstrators faced off with the police. Some protesters hurled Molotov cocktails and stones, escalating the situation. The crowd chanted “The murderers” and “Their profits, our dead” while demanding that the government not cover up the accident and resign. Additionally, protesters demanded that railway operations be returned to the public sector and not remain in private hands. The situation remains tense in Athens as protests continue.
