Türkiye Accepts Finland’s NATO bid

Finland’s NATO membership proposal was accepted by the Turkish Grand National Assembly. The decision was made after negotiations, which included concerns about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Approval of 30 countries is required in NATO, with Türkiye’s support being important. Sweden and Finland applied for membership together, and although Türkiye has separated their files, they are expected to complete the process together. The decision was welcomed by some deputies, while others expressed reservations and concerns about Sweden’s slow action towards meeting demands in the tripartite memorandum of understanding. Deputy Speaker of the Assembly Haydar Akar wished Finland good luck with their membership.
