French Pension Reform Protests Lead to 111 Arrests in Paris

Thousands of people marched against France’s controversial pension reform, particularly in Paris where an estimated 57,000 people participated. The reform was passed without a vote in parliament, prompting calls for President Emmanuel Macron’s resignation. Clashes between protesters and police left 154 officers injured, and 111 demonstrators were detained in the capital. The General Confederation of Labor (CGT) announced around 400,000 attended the Paris protest, though turnout was lower on the 11th day of protests.

On April 14, the Constitutional Council will decide on the pension reform’s legality. Experts predict that the Council is unlikely to overturn the law.
