Thousands of people gathered early in the morning on Kathmandu’s outskirts to celebrate the ‘Biska Jatra’ festival in Thimi, Nepal. While celebrating the festival, women lit butter lamps, young people sang and danced and people carried a ceremonial palanquin.
In addition, the ethnic Newar people in Bhaktapur celebrate Biska Jatra in the hope of protection from all natural disasters and help for a bountiful harvest in the new year, which marks 2080 in the Nepali calendar.
