A bullfighting event in Aguascalientes, Mexico turned dangerous as matador Jose Guadalupe Adame was seriously injured during an attack by a bull. Video footage captured by the audience shows Adame being tossed several meters into the air after being struck by the bull’s horn. The 34-year-old fell onto his head and lost consciousness. Officials in the area immediately rushed to his aid and took him to the arena’s infirmary. Adame’s injuries were deemed serious enough that he had to be transported by ambulance to a local hospital. Doctors discovered edema in his brain as a result of the attack and he was quickly taken into surgery.

The incident has sparked renewed debate over the safety of bullfighting and the treatment of the animals involved.
