The Ahi Pasha Mosque in Tokat, Türkiye, built on June 20, 1364, mesmerizes visitors with its 660-year history and unique wooden minaret. Commissioned by Ahi Pasha, the mosque is a significant landmark attracting both locals and tourists. The mosque, part of the Ahi Pasha Foundation, also has a garden with a cemetery where Ahi Pasha’s descendants are buried.
The mosque’s distinctive architecture, updated in the 18th century, features an eight-segment wooden dome supported by eight wooden poles attached to the walls. Its small wooden minaret adds to its charm and aesthetic appeal.
Osman Al, a long-time resident, remarked on the mosque’s unique design: “It has a unique architecture. It was built during the time of His Excellency Ahi Pasha. I have lived in this neighborhood for 53 years. Ahi Pasha had it built according to his own taste. People used to call it the mosque with the wooden minaret.”
