The reaction of the Muslims in India to the insulting statements of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Spokesperson Nupur Sharma against Islam and the Prophet Muhammad in a television program is in progress in the country non-stop. While many demonstrators were detained in the protests that have been going on since last week, video footage of the Indian police violence against Muslims emerged. In the footage recorded in Saharanpur city of Uttar Pradesh state, and spread rapidly on social media and became the subject of the country’s agenda, it’s seen that Muslims who were detained during the protests last week were brutally beaten with batons in the police station they were taken to. While no action was taken against the police officers involved in the incident, the families of the beaten Muslims stated that their relatives were innocent and should be released. Also some families stated that their relatives who were detained didn’t even participate in the protests.
