Amnesty Law for Seperatist Catalans Approved in Spanish Parliament

In Spain, the bill providing amnesty for Catalan separatists, proposed by the Socialist Workers Party, was approved in a vote held in the House of Representatives, the lower house of parliament. The bill, which caused controversy and protests in the country and waited in the Assembly and Senate for months, will become law after being published in the official journal tomorrow.

“In politics, as in life, forgiveness is stronger than grudges. Today, Spain is more prosperous and united than it was in 2017. It is moving towards coexistence,” Prime Minister Sanchez said on social media.

There are approximately 400 Catalan politicians and NGO representatives who were convicted or whose judicial process is ongoing following the illegal referendum on November 9, 2014, and the referendum on October 1, 2017, within the scope of pro-independence initiatives in Catalonia.
