Anti-government protests in Armenia

In Armenia, the opposition, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, has been continuing their demonstration since 1 May. The demonstrators, who closed the Kyiv Bridge, one of the most critical connection points in the capital Yerevan, to vehicle traffic with trucks, set up barricades with garbage containers on the streets close to the parliament building. Traffic has stopped at major ring road connections in Yerevan. It was stated that dozens of protesters were detained in the demonstrations in which the police intervened.

The Armenian opposition is demanding that Pashinyan be tried for “treason” on the grounds that he surrendered the Nagorno-Karabakh lands and displayed a submissive attitude in foreign policy. Dissidents who applied to the Armenian prosecutor’s office also demand Pashinyan’s resignation. The opposition, which started “Civil disobedience” actions as of May 1, announced that they would continue their demonstration until their demands are met.

More than 200 people were detained in the anti-government demonstrations in Armenia yesterday, and they were released a short time later.
