Anti-government protest erupted when indigenous of Paraguay protested the approval of the law by the parliament that imposes a prison sentence of up to 10 years for invasion of land in the country. 7 policemen were injured and several vehicles were set in fire when police tried to evacuate protestors from the vicinity of the compound, officials said.
Controversial law in Paraguay raising the sentences for invasion of land to 10 years in prison was discussed in the parliament yesterday. Approval of this law will pave the way for the government to expel the protestors of the law from their ancestral lands, protestors claim.
