The anti-vaccine truck drivers in Canada flocked to the capital city Ottawa to protest the government’s decision to require truck drivers to have Coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine to cross the US border. The truck drivers, who reached Toronto city located at 450 kilometers west of Ottawa on Thursday, have received support from the surrounding community along their route. The truck drivers, who call themselves the “Freedom Convoy”, are expected to arrive the Ottawa in the evening hours today.

In addition, US businessman Elon Musk has supported the protester convoy on his social media account. Musk commented, “Canadian truck drivers are great” about the convoy on his account. Musk also previously described the measures taken by the US government against COVID-19 as “fascist”. Meanwhile, some members of the Canadian opposition Conservative Party have supported the protest.

On the other hand, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has described the protest as a threat to freedom. Also, local authorities expressed their concerns about the possible participation of other people, who against the vaccinations and the COVID-19 measures, to the group in Ottawa. Ottawa Police Chief Peter Sloly stated that the truck drivers’ posts on their social media accounts may seem harmless, but may pose a security threat. Sloly warned the security forces to be on full alert.

Monsoon Rains Kill 17 in Pakistan
