Anti-war protesters disrupted a Senate Appropriations Committee hearing where US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Minister Lloyd Austin were discussing a $106 billion national security fund, which included aid for Israel and Ukraine. Demonstrators with red-painted hands raised objections to Israel’s actions in Gaza, calling for a ceasefire and displaying banners against the Gaza siege. Blinken’s speech was repeatedly interrupted, leading to the removal and detention of 12 protestors.
The hearing aimed to allocate about $15 billion from the fund for Israel’s military operations in Palestine.
