Armed Hospital Attack in Japan Followed by Post Office Hostage Crisis

In Toda city, Saitama prefecture, Japan, an armed attack unfolded at a hospital, resulting in injuries to a doctor in his 40s and a patient in his 60s. The assailant fled on a motorcycle to the nearby city of Warabi, where they took individuals hostage at a post office. Eyewitnesses reported that the attacker appeared to be in their 40s to 50s, prompting nearby businesses to close for security precautions. A police operation is ongoing at the scene, with the number of hostages yet to be confirmed.

Coordinated Attacks Target Prisons Across France

Seven prisons across France were targeted in overnight attacks, with vehicles set ablaze and a prison gate hit by automatic gunfire. Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin said the attacks aimed to intimidate inmates and disrupt the government’s anti-drug efforts. No group has claimed responsibility. Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau vowed a “ruthless” response, while prison unions called the incidents “extremely serious” and demanded urgent action. Facilities in Toulon, Marseille, Nîmes, and near Paris were among those attacked.
