Armenia has assumed full control of the Margara Border Gate following the withdrawal of Russian border guards. Turkish journalists, invited by Armenian officials, visited the site, where Armenian Foreign Ministry representative Avetik Harutyunyan highlighted efforts to reopen the border to third-country citizens and diplomats.
Although the gate remains closed, Harutyunyan noted that it was renovated and made operational. The border, shut since 1993 due to Armenia’s occupation of Azerbaijani territory, briefly reopened twice for humanitarian aid following Türkiye’s February 2023 earthquakes.
