The junta that took power in Myanmar after the military coup on February 1, 2021, carried out an airstrike on the concert venue in Kachin state. Two military planes were said to have attacked the concert commemorating the 62nd anniversary of the establishment of the separatist Kachin Independence Army (KIA) in the Kansi region.

According to KIA Spokesperson Colonel Naw Bu, at least 50 people were killed and about 100 were injured in the attack.
