Caretta carettas emerged from their nests on Antalya’s world-famous Patara Beach in Turkey and began to travel to the sea. Prof. Dr. Eyüp Başkale of Pamukkale University’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences stated that scientists have been monitoring Patara beach for 30 years. “There are 250 nests this year,” Başkale said, recalling that there were 316 nests last year. “Sea turtles come to the beach to lay their eggs every 2-3 years on average, so this year’s population is equivalent to the population from 3-4 years ago,” he said.
