Bangkok Implements a Week Free Transit Amid Severe Air Pollution

Bangkok, Thailand’s capital, is grappling with hazardous air pollution, with levels measured at 21 times higher than the World Health Organization’s (WHO) safe limit. The city ranked 7th globally for poor air quality, with an air quality index (AQI) of 159, classified as “unhealthy.”

In response, public transportation in Bangkok will be free for a week starting Saturday, announced Transport Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit. Education has been suspended in 352 schools across 31 districts, and residents are urged to wear masks, avoid outdoor activities, and work from home.
