Bangladesh Chief of General Staff Waker-uz-Zaman has confirmed the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and announced the formation of an interim government. Following mass protests and civil disobedience led by student leaders demanding Hasina’s resignation, she fled to India amid escalating violence.

In a national address, Waker-uz-Zaman stated that discussions with opposition parties are underway, although the head of the interim government has yet to be decided. He emphasized the army’s commitment to restoring peace and justice, urging citizens to trust the military and cease violence.

“We will ensure justice for every death and crime during the protests,” Zaman assured, noting that representatives from all major political parties have pledged to work together. He also stated there is no need for a curfew or state of emergency and asked protesters for patience as the army seeks a solution.
