Barcelona Airport Floods Disrupt Travel Amid Severe Rains

Severe rainfall in Catalonia, Spain, flooded Barcelona International Airport, submerging the passenger terminal, runway, and parking areas. Numerous flights were canceled, and rail access was halted, while airport authorities established a crisis desk and began water drainage efforts. To assist passengers, barriers were cleared to facilitate exits.

Catalonia’s government issued a red alert for Barcelona, advising residents to avoid travel and keep away from rivers and valleys. Streets throughout the city faced extensive flooding. In recent floods, 214 people in Valencia and several others across Spain lost their lives, with ongoing fears that the toll may rise as cleanup progresses.
