KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani condemned the drone attack on the Kormor Gas Field in Sulaymaniyah and called on the United States and international partners to supply defensive equipment to protect vital energy infrastructure. He urged Baghdad to find the perpetrators and warned against repeating “past mistakes” such as releasing criminals.
Iraq’s Joint Operations Command labeled the strike a “dangerous act of terrorism” that threatens the country’s economic and energy security. While no casualties were reported, a storage facility caught fire.
The KRG Electricity Ministry said gas flow disruptions forced an 80% shutdown of the region’s power production, causing outages in Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, and Duhok. The Kormor field, run by UAE-based Dana Gas, is one of Iraq’s largest and supplies over 2,000 megawatts to regional power plants.
