US President Joe Biden attended the meeting with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky in Paris after official ceremonies to mark the 80th anniversary of the Normandy Landing in France. Speaking about the delay in military aid packages to Ukraine, Biden apologized to Zelensky for the delay, caused by a disruption in the US Congress, and signed an additional package of $ 225 million to help Ukraine restructure its electricity network.

“It is very important that the United States and all American people stand by Ukraine, as they did during World War II. The United States helped save human lives and helped save Europe. We count on your continued support for us,” Zelensky said.

Syrian President Visits France in First EU Trip

Syrian President Ahmed al-Shaara met with French President Emmanuel Macron during his first official visit to Europe since taking office. The two leaders discussed Syria’s reconstruction, sanctions, and regional tensions in a meeting at the Élysée Palace.

Macron stressed the need to protect all Syrians and called for justice over recent violence. He urged the EU to gradually lift economic sanctions if Syria stabilizes, and called on the U.S. to align with European policy. Macron also criticized Israeli strikes in Syria, calling them threats to regional peace.

Al-Shaara thanked France for its support but asserted, “The future of our country will not be determined behind closed doors.” He said sanctions now harm civilians more than the regime and confirmed indirect talks with Israel to ease tensions.

He also met with “Caesar,” the whistleblower who exposed torture under the Assad regime.
