Biden signs NATO membership protocols for Finland and Sweden

US President Joe Biden signed the documents that approve the NATO membership of Finland and Sweden in the White House. “It is a significant day. Today, we are taking another important step on including Finland and Sweden to NATO.  I’m going to sign the U.S. Instrument of Ratification, making the United States the 23rd Ally to approve Sweden and Finland’s membership to the strongest, most powerful defensive alliance in the history of the world” Biden said.

US President said “Both countries are using their own rights to decide on their countries’ and people’s security. They are joining NATO by following democratic procedures. It was a milestone.” Biden stated that he met Finland President Sauli Niinistö and Sweden Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson just before the signature ceremony and said, “They did their best and congratulated on the valuable progress made so far.”

By signing the letter of membership, US has become the 23th ally to give approval to the participation of the both countries. The two countries’ membership was ratified with 1 against 95 votes from both Democratic and Republican senators on the previous week.
