A boat captain, Turgay Meşe, rescued a caretta caretta entangled in a fishing net and a fishing hook off Alanya Castle in the Alanya district of Türkiye’s Antalya province. Spotting the animal abnormally motionless on the surface of the water, Meşe dived into the sea to check on it. After taking the animal to the boat, Meşe cut the fishing net and hook with a knife and released it back to the sea, saying, “Go on, my girl.” The compassionate captain said that they have rescued sea turtles dozens of times before.
