A boat carrying 78 passengers sank just three hours after departing from a port in the Indragiri Hilir Regency region of Riau province on the Indonesian island of Sumatra. A rescue team was immediately dispatched to the area, and the Pekanbaru Search and Rescue Agency has announced that 11 people were found dead, while 58 others were rescued, some of whom were unconscious. Most of the passengers were returning home for Eid al-Fitr to spend time with their families.
The cause of the accident is still unknown, but some survivors have reported that the boat hit a log during strong winds. The search for the remaining missing persons is ongoing.
