The bodies of Azerbaijani brothers Ziyeddin and Husayn Safarov, who were killed during a raid by Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) in Yekaterinburg, were brought to Baku today. Their remains arrived at Heydar Aliyev International Airport under tight security and are scheduled for autopsy before burial in Agjabedi tomorrow.
The Safarov family was among the targets of coordinated FSB operations on June 27, during which two brothers were killed, three people seriously injured, and nine others detained.
Following the incident, Azerbaijan summoned the Russian Embassy’s chargé d’affaires and canceled all Russian cultural events. The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs said the raids were part of an investigation into past crimes, but did not comment on the casualties.
