Brazil’s Lula Rejects Meeting with Trump Over Tariffs

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has rejected a direct meeting with US President Donald Trump over the newly imposed 50% tariffs on Brazil, calling it “pointless” and “humiliating.” Lula stated that he would not tolerate US attempts to dictate Brazil’s policies, referencing Trump’s demand for an end to the judicial process against former President Jair Bolsonaro. While maintaining Brazil’s stance against retaliatory tariffs, Lula plans to discuss a joint response with BRICS leaders and considers filing a complaint with the WTO. Lula also criticized Trump’s treatment of other world leaders, emphasizing the need for mutual respect among nations.
